William Marlow was an English landscape and marine painter known for topographical views of country houses, river scenes, and Continental cities. Trained in London under Samuel Scott and at the St. Martin's Lane Academy, he absorbed the Anglo-Dutch tradition of marine painting alongside the structured vedute manner associated with Canaletto, who had worked in England the decade before Marlow began his career.
