Ferdinand Hodler — Swiss, 1853–1918 — Symbolism / Swiss Modernism
Ferdinand Hodler was the leading Swiss painter of his generation, a figure whose work bridges late nineteenth-century Symbolism and the formal innovations of early modernism. Trained in Geneva, he developed a method he called Parallelism, organizing figures and landscape elements through rhythmic repetition and mirrored symmetry.
