Julius Sergius von Klever was a Baltic German painter who became one of the most commercially successful Russian landscape artists of the late nineteenth century. Trained at the Imperial Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg, he achieved early recognition with atmospheric forest scenes, marshes, and ruins rendered in a theatrical, late-Romantic register. His signature works favor twilight, sunset, and winter conditions, with silhouetted pines, glowing skies, and isolated peasant huts.
