Georges Seurat — French, 1859–1891 — Post-Impressionism / Neo-Impressionism
Seurat is the central figure of Neo-Impressionism and the originator of the systematic technique known as Pointillism, in which discrete touches of unmixed pigment combine optically in the viewer's eye. Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts and grounded in the color theories of Chevreul, Rood, and Charles Henry, he sought to give Impressionism a rigorous, almost scientific structure.
