Fernand Leger — French, 1881–1955 — Cubism / Tubism
Fernand Léger trained as an architectural draftsman before turning to painting in Paris in the early 1900s, where he absorbed the lessons of Cézanne and aligned briefly with the Cubists. He developed a distinct vocabulary built from cylinders, cones, and tubular forms — a mechanical sensibility that earned his early work the label Tubism.
