Wyspiański was a central figure of the Młoda Polska (Young Poland) movement, working in Kraków during a period of cultural revival under partition. Trained at the Kraków School of Fine Arts under Jan Matejko and later in Paris, he moved fluidly between painting, pastel portraiture, stained glass, theatrical design, and poetry.
