Mary Cassatt — American, 1844–1926 — American Impressionism
Mary Cassatt was the only American invited to exhibit with the French Impressionists, joining the group at Edgar Degas's urging in 1879. Born to a prosperous Pennsylvania family, she settled permanently in Paris and built her career there, working primarily in oil, pastel, and printmaking.
