Henry Farny was a French-born American painter and illustrator known for his depictions of Native American life on the Great Plains in the late nineteenth century. Based in Cincinnati for most of his career, he traveled west on several occasions, sketching among the Sioux and other tribes, and built his studio compositions from those firsthand observations alongside an extensive collection of artifacts and photographs.
