Description
Portrait Of Frans Hals
Frans Hals — Dutch, c. 1582–1666 — Dutch Golden Age
Frans Hals stands among the principal portraitists of the Dutch Golden Age, working almost exclusively in Haarlem from the early seventeenth century until his death. He is recognized for a loose, vigorous brushwork that captured momentary expression and gesture with an immediacy unusual for the period — a quality that would later draw the close attention of Manet, Courbet, and the early Impressionists.
