Georges Lacombe — French, 1868–1916 — Les Nabis / Post-Impressionism
Georges Lacombe was a French painter and sculptor associated with Les Nabis, the post-Impressionist circle that included Bonnard, Vuillard, and Sérusier. Trained briefly under Roll and Géervex, he was drawn into the Nabi orbit in the early 1890s and earned the nickname 'the Nabi sculptor' for his carved wood reliefs, which fused Symbolist subject matter with the simplified planes and decorative rhythms the group favored.
