Alfred Sisley — British-French, 1839–1899 — French Impressionism
Sisley was among the founding figures of French Impressionism, exhibiting in four of the eight independent group exhibitions between 1874 and 1882 alongside Monet, Renoir, and Pissarro. Born in Paris to British parents, he retained British citizenship throughout his life and worked almost exclusively as a landscape painter, a sustained focus uncommon even among his Impressionist peers.
