John La Farge — American, 1835–1910 — American Aestheticism
John La Farge was an American painter, muralist, and innovator in stained glass whose career bridged academic painting and the decorative arts movement of the late nineteenth century. Born in New York to French émigré parents, he trained briefly in Paris before settling into a varied practice that included landscape, still life, religious subjects, and ambitious mural commissions, most notably the interior of Trinity Church in Boston.
