Archibald Thorburn was the preeminent British bird painter of the late Victorian and Edwardian periods, working primarily in watercolour and gouache. The son of the miniaturist Robert Thorburn, he trained briefly in London before settling into a career devoted almost entirely to depicting British game birds, raptors, and waterfowl in their native landscapes.
