David Cox was an English landscape painter and a leading figure of the British watercolour tradition in the first half of the nineteenth century. Born in Birmingham, he trained initially as a scene painter before turning to watercolour, working as a drawing master and producing instructional manuals that shaped a generation of amateur and professional artists.
