Niccolo dell'Abate - 1509-1571

Niccolo dell'Abate - 1509-1571

Nicollo dell'Abate was born in 1509 in Modena, Italy. Signore dell'Abate was most well known for his frescos and oil paintings, mostly done in a Mannerist style. Signore dell'Abate was trained under Antonio Begarelli, who was a local sculptor. Not much else is known of his early life, nor much until his career took off in 1537. Long friezes were the most common form that dell'Abate specialized in, although he also did frescoes. Many of Signore dell'Abate's works centered around mythical and secu …

Anne Louis Girodet De Roussy Trioson

Anne Louis Girodet De Roussy Trioson

Romanticism was a powerful cultural force throughout the world. In French art, Romanticism reigned supreme for a large portion of the nineteenth century. Anne-Louis Girodet de Roussy-Trioson was one of many artists that helped get it off the ground in the first place. He was born in 1767, and helped set the stage for a lot of what would happen in the next century. Anne-Louis Girodet de Roussy-Trioson didn't limit himself when it came to choosing artistic subjects. Audiences could see paintings o …

Andreas Achenbach

Andreas Achenbach

Andreas Achenbach lived a very long and distinguished life as an artist. He was born in 1815 and died in 1910, which was a particularly impressive lifespan for someone born in the nineteenth century. Impressively enough, Andreas Achenbach was something of a child prodigy with regards to his artistic talent as well. He was only fourteen when he managed to sell art for the first time, thus officially becoming a professional artist. He was only twelve when he started studying at the Dusseldo …

Arthur Hacker

Arthur Hacker

Arthur Hacker was born in 1858, so he witnessed quite a few exciting changes in the art world and beyond. He was a British artist, and many newspapers in the United Kingdom continue to publish tributes to his work. Arthur Hacker's father was a line engraver, so he was already exposed to the art world of the day through his family. However, Arthur Hacker's work has easily outlasted the more vocational work of his father.Between 1876 and 1880, Arthur Hacker was a student at the Royal Academy. He a …

Antoine Coypel II (1521–1599)

Antoine Coypel II (1521–1599)

Antoine Coypel II was a French painter born in 1661. He died in 1722 at the age of sixty-one. Antoine Coypel II was indeed an artist that defied many of the popular stereotypes about the famous artists of history. The popular image of the artist is often that of a depressed melancholic that is unappreciated in his or her own time, only to become famous long after he or she would be able to appreciate it. Other stereotypes of artists focus on the artists that are popular and successful in their o …
