Before The Ball By Charles W. Hawthorne

Charles Hawthorne — American, 1872–1930 — American Impressionism

Charles Webster Hawthorne was an American figure painter best known for founding the Cape Cod School of Art in Provincetown in 1899, which transformed the village into one of the most influential artist colonies in the United States. A student of William Merritt Chase, Hawthorne developed a method of teaching painting through what he called 'spots of color,' training students to perceive tone and value before drawing.
