John Joseph Enneking — American, 1841–1916 — American Impressionism / Boston School
Enneking was a New England landscape painter associated with the early reception of Impressionist methods in America. After studies in Munich and Paris in the 1870s, where he encountered the work of Monet and the Barbizon painters, he settled near Boston and devoted himself to the woods, ponds, and seasonal transitions of New England.
