Abbott Handerson Thayer was an American painter best known for ethereal portraits of women and children rendered as winged angels and allegorical figures. Trained in Brooklyn, Boston, and at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris under Jean-Léon Gérôme, he settled in Dublin, New Hampshire, where the surrounding Monadnock landscape became a recurring subject.
