Liubov Popova was a central figure of the Russian avant-garde, working across painting, graphic design, textile, and theatrical production in the years surrounding the 1917 revolution. Trained in Moscow and influenced by time spent in Paris studying Cubism, she absorbed the lessons of Picasso and Léger before aligning with Kazimir Malevich's Suprematist circle and later with Constructivism.
