Woods And Meadow, Three Cows Wading
William Keith — Scottish-American, 1838–1911 — American Tonalism / California Landscape
William Keith was a Scottish-born American landscape painter who became the preeminent painter of California in the late nineteenth century. After emigrating as a child and training as a wood engraver, he turned to painting in the 1860s and settled in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he remained for most of his career. His early work, often grand views of the Sierra Nevada, reflected the panoramic ambitions of the Hudson River School.
