With The Black Bow Vasili Kadinsky
Vasili Kadinsky — Russian, 1866–1944 — Expressionism / Abstract Art
Wassily Kandinsky was a Russian painter and theorist widely credited with producing some of the first purely abstract works in Western art. Trained in law and economics before turning to painting in his thirties, he settled in Munich and became a central figure in Der Blaue Reiter, the expressionist group he co-founded with Franz Marc in 1911. His paintings progressed from Fauvist-influenced landscapes toward compositions in which color, line, and form operated independently of representation.
