Western Forest

Emily Carr — Canadian, 1871–1945 — Canadian Post-Impressionism

Emily Carr was a Canadian painter and writer whose work is closely identified with the forests, totem poles, and Indigenous villages of the Pacific Northwest coast. Born in Victoria, British Columbia, she trained in San Francisco, London, and Paris, where exposure to Post-Impressionism and Fauvism reshaped her approach. After a long period of obscurity, her career was revived in 1927 through contact with the Group of Seven, particularly Lawren Harris.
