Gerald Murphy — American, 1888–1964 — American Modernism
Gerald Murphy was an American painter who produced a small but distinctive body of work during a brief career in Paris between 1921 and 1929. Trained informally under Natalia Goncharova, he developed a precise, hard-edged style that translated everyday objects—watches, matchboxes, cocktail glasses, ocean liner fixtures—into flat, magnified geometric compositions.
