Boris Grigoriev — Russian, 1886–1939 — Russian Modernism
Boris Grigoriev was a Russian painter and graphic artist whose portraits and rural scenes carry an unsettling psychological edge characteristic of pre-revolutionary modernism. Trained at the Imperial Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg, he became known in the 1910s for incisive caricatural portraits of the Russian intelligentsia, including likenesses of Maxim Gorky, Sergei Rachmaninoff, and Vsevolod Meyerhold.
