Via Del Fuoco, Vecchio Mercato Di Firenze
Telemaco Signorini — Italian, 1835–1901 — Macchiaioli
Signorini was a central figure among the Macchiaioli, the group of Tuscan painters who, from the late 1850s, broke with academic convention by working in patches (macchie) of tone and color observed directly from life. Based in Florence and a regular at the Caffè Michelangiolo where the movement coalesced, he traveled widely—to Paris, where he encountered Corot and the Barbizon painters, and to Edinburgh and London.
