Johannes Theodor Baargeld, born Alfred Emanuel Ferdinand Grünwald, was a German artist and political agitator who co-founded the Cologne Dada group with Max Ernst and Hans Arp in 1919. The son of a wealthy insurance director, he adopted the pseudonym Baargeld—German for 'cash'—as a satirical jab at his bourgeois origins.
