Roger De La Fresnaye — French, 1885–1925 — French Cubism
Roger de La Fresnaye occupies a particular place within early twentieth-century French Cubism, working alongside the Section d'Or group that included Albert Gleizes, Jean Metzinger, and the Duchamp brothers. Trained at the Académie Julian and the Académie Ranson under Maurice Denis and Paul Sérusier, he absorbed the structural lessons of Cézanne before adapting Cubist geometry to a more lyrical, color-driven sensibility.
