Antonio Mancini was a Neapolitan painter regarded by John Singer Sargent as the greatest living painter of his time. Trained at the Naples Academy of Fine Arts, where he studied under Domenico Morelli and Filippo Palizzi, Mancini emerged as a precocious talent in the 1870s, exhibiting at the Paris Salon while still in his twenties.
