Edward Willis Redfield was a leading figure of the New Hope school, the Pennsylvania colony of American Impressionists who painted the Bucks County landscape in the early twentieth century. Trained at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and in Paris, Redfield rejected studio refinement in favor of working outdoors in a single sustained session, often completing large canvases in a day, even in deep winter.
