Antonio Jacobsen — Danish-American, 1850–1921 — American Marine Painting
Antonio Jacobsen was the most prolific marine painter of the late nineteenth century, producing an estimated six thousand ship portraits over his career. Born in Copenhagen and trained briefly at the Royal Academy there, he emigrated to New York in 1873 and settled in West Hoboken, New Jersey, where he worked from a studio overlooking the Hudson.
