Elizabeth Shippen Green was an American illustrator associated with the Brandywine tradition and the circle of students who studied under Howard Pyle at the Drexel Institute in Philadelphia. From 1901 to 1924 she worked under exclusive contract to Harper's Magazine, producing illustrations for fiction, poetry, and feature stories. Her work is characterized by elegant linear design, restrained color, and a gift for sympathetic figural composition, often depicting women and children in domestic or literary settings.
