Description

The Lament Of Orpheus

Pascal Dagnan Bouveret — French, 1852–1929 — Naturalism, Academic Realism

Pascal Dagnan-Bouveret trained under Alexandre Cabanel and Jean-Léon Gérôme at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, and was closely associated with Jules Bastien-Lepage and the rural naturalist circle that emerged in the 1880s. He worked between Paris and the Franche-Comté countryside, producing carefully observed scenes of peasant life, weddings, and religious subjects. His method combined plein-air study with photographic reference, lending his finished canvases a precise, almost documentary clarity.
