Thomas Sidney Cooper was an English painter known almost exclusively for his pastoral scenes of cattle and sheep grazing in the meadows and downs of Kent. Born in Canterbury, he trained briefly at the Royal Academy Schools and spent formative years in Brussels, where he was influenced by the Dutch tradition of Cuyp and Paulus Potter.
