Alfred East was an English landscape painter and etcher associated with the late Victorian and Edwardian generation that absorbed the lessons of the Barbizon School into a distinctly British idiom. Born in Kettering, Northamptonshire, he trained in Glasgow and Paris before settling into a career devoted almost entirely to landscape.
