The Four Seasons 02 Summer
Giuseppe Arcimboldo — Italian, 1526–1593 — Late Italian Renaissance / Mannerism
Giuseppe Arcimboldo trained in the Milanese workshop tradition before entering the Habsburg court in 1562, where he served Ferdinand I, Maximilian II, and Rudolf II as portraitist, costume designer, and pageant master across nearly three decades in Vienna and Prague. He is remembered chiefly for his composite heads—portraits assembled from fruit, vegetables, flowers, fish, books, or game—painted with botanical and zoological precision drawn from the Kunstkammer culture of the Habsburg courts.
