Frederick Goodall — British, 1822–1904 — Victorian Orientalism
Frederick Goodall was a Victorian painter best known for the Egyptian and biblical scenes that defined the second half of his career. Trained initially under his father, the engraver Edward Goodall, he was elected an Associate of the Royal Academy in 1852 and a full Academician in 1863. His early work consisted of rural English and Breton genre subjects, but two extended visits to Egypt in 1858–59 and 1870 reshaped his practice.
