The Buddha
Odilon Redon — French, 1840–1916 — French Symbolism
Odilon Redon worked at the intersection of imagination and observation, producing a body of work that moved from the brooding monochrome of his early decades to the saturated color of his later years. Born in Bordeaux and trained partly under Rodolphe Bresdin, he spent the 1870s and 1880s making charcoal drawings and lithographs he called his 'noirs'—dreamlike images of disembodied eyes, spectral heads, and botanical hybrids.
