Aime Nicolas Morot — French, 1850–1913 — French Academic Realism
Aimé-Nicolas Morot was a French academic painter known for historical scenes, military subjects, and portraiture executed with rigorous draftsmanship. Born in Nancy, he trained at the École des Beaux-Arts under Alexandre Cabanel and won the Prix de Rome in 1873. His reputation was secured by large-scale historical and biblical compositions, including works depicting battles of the Franco-Prussian War, which combined naturalistic observation with the polished finish expected of the Salon.
