Charles Courtney Curran built a career on intimate, sunlit depictions of women in landscape, often posed on hilltops or among wildflowers with broad skies behind them. Trained at the Cincinnati School of Design, the National Academy of Design in New York, and the Académie Julian in Paris, he absorbed academic figure drawing before turning toward a lighter, plein-air manner aligned with American Impressionism.
