Edward Potthast — American, 1857–1927 — American Impressionism
Edward Henry Potthast is best known for his sunlit beach scenes painted along the Atlantic coast, particularly at Coney Island, Far Rockaway, and the shores of New England. Born in Cincinnati to German immigrant parents, he trained at the McMicken School of Design before continuing his studies in Munich, Antwerp, and Paris, where exposure to plein-air practice shaped his mature approach.
