St Catherine Of Alexandria
Raphael — Italian, 1483–1520 — Italian High Renaissance
Raphael Sanzio of Urbino completed the triumvirate of High Renaissance masters alongside Leonardo and Michelangelo, though he died at thirty-seven. Trained under Perugino in Umbria, he absorbed Florentine innovation during a formative period in that city before being summoned to Rome by Pope Julius II in 1508. There he painted the Stanze of the Vatican, including the School of Athens, which set the standard for monumental fresco for centuries afterward.
