Peder Severin Kroyer — Danish, 1851–1909 — Skagen Painters
Peder Severin Krøyer was the central figure of the Skagen Painters, the colony of Scandinavian artists who gathered each summer in the fishing village at Denmark's northern tip. Trained at the Royal Danish Academy and later in Paris, where he absorbed the plein-air practices of the French naturalists, Krøyer brought a sophisticated European technique to distinctly Nordic subjects.
