Sir Edwin Cornwall
John Collier — British, 1850–1934 — British Pre-Raphaelite and Academic Realism
John Collier was an English painter associated with the later phase of Pre-Raphaelitism and the Royal Academy tradition, working primarily in portraiture and literary subject pictures. Trained at the Slade School and in Paris and Munich, he built a long career producing likenesses of prominent Victorian and Edwardian figures, including scientists, statesmen, and members of his own intellectually distinguished family — he was the son-in-law, twice over, of Thomas Henry Huxley.
