Wilhelm Trübner was a German painter associated with the Leibl Circle, the group of realist artists gathered around Wilhelm Leibl in Munich during the 1870s. Trained at the Karlsruhe and Munich academies, he developed a direct, painterly style indebted to Courbet and the Dutch and Spanish old masters, working in portraiture, still life, landscape, and figure subjects.
