Sebastiano Ricci was a Venetian painter whose decorative compositions helped revive large-scale history painting in Venice and prepared the ground for Tiepolo. Born in Belluno, he trained in Venice and worked across Italy — Bologna, Parma, Rome, Florence — absorbing the example of Veronese, whose airy palette and theatrical staging he adapted to a lighter, more fluent idiom.
