Gabriele Munter — German, 1877–1962 — German Expressionism
Gabriele Münter was a founding member of Der Blaue Reiter, the Munich-based Expressionist circle she helped form in 1911 alongside Wassily Kandinsky, Franz Marc, and others. Trained at the Phalanx School under Kandinsky, she developed a style marked by flattened forms, bold black contours, and saturated planes of color — owed in part to her study of Bavarian reverse-glass folk painting.
