Seascape Lestaque

Georges Braque — French, 1882–1963 — Cubism

Georges Braque was a French painter who, alongside Pablo Picasso, developed Cubism in the years between 1907 and 1914. Trained initially as a house painter and decorator in Le Havre, he brought a craftsman's attention to surface and material into his fine art practice. His early Fauvist landscapes gave way, after seeing Cézanne's late work, to the faceted analytical canvases that defined the new movement.
