Henrietta Rae Normand — British, 1859–1928 — Late Victorian Classicism
Henrietta Rae was among the small number of women to achieve significant standing in the late Victorian academic establishment, exhibiting regularly at the Royal Academy from 1879 onward. Trained at Heatherley's and the Royal Academy Schools, she worked primarily in the classical and mythological tradition associated with Frederic Leighton and Edward Poynter, painting subjects drawn from Greek myth, Shakespeare, and allegory at considerable scale.
