River Scene
Stanislas Lepine — French, 1835–1892 — French Realism / Pre-Impressionism
Stanislas Lépine occupies a quiet position between the Barbizon school and the Impressionists, valued by collectors for his restrained Parisian river views and modest harbor scenes. Born in Caen, he studied under Camille Corot, whose influence is evident in Lépine's measured tonal harmonies and subdued atmospheric light. He worked primarily in and around Paris, painting the Seine, Montmartre streets, and the quays of small Norman ports, often at dusk or in overcast weather.
