Rinaldo And Armida

Johann Heinrich Tischbein The Elder Aka The Kasseler Tischbein German — German, 1722–1789 — German Late Baroque and Rococo

Johann Heinrich Tischbein the Elder, known as the Kasseler Tischbein to distinguish him from numerous painter relatives, served as court painter to Landgrave Frederick II of Hesse-Kassel from 1753 until his death. Trained in Paris under Carle van Loo and in Venice under Piazzetta, he absorbed both French Rococo elegance and Venetian colorism, returning to Germany with a polished international style.
